Gingham- generally recognized as a classic summer pattern- is a multipurpose pattern perfect for any season.

Gingham is a simple pattern, much like plaid, but contrastingly made up of only two colors generally black and white. This summer trend brought out a variation of Gingham colors from the traditional black and white to red and white, blue and white, and yellow and white.

Although this print may remind you of a picnic table covering, it is truly an easy to pull off pattern that looks good on its own or when paired with other simple elements. It is as easy to put an outfit together with as polka dots.

But how can you incorporate this summer style into your fall wardrobe without buying all new clothing?

  1. Wear a pair of bright pants and a neutral cardigan with a simple black and white gingham blouse.

  2. Wear your wrap over blouse under your rain jacket with a pair of jeans.

  3. Wear your gingham blazer with a pop of color scarf, neutral dress pant and floral print shoe.

  4. Add some pattern to your fluffy sweater with a gingham scarf, leggings boots, and boot socks.

  5. Wear a one-piece bathing suit as a bodysuit under a thick knit cardigan and pair of leggings.

  6. Wear a pair of black socks or a pair of socks in a contrasting color with your gingham sandals and a dress.

  7. Invest in a pair of gingham Vans to wear with a pair of ripped black jeans leather jacket and a band shirt.

  8. Add some details to your plain outfits with a gingham purse, wristlet or clutch.

Just because magazines designate a style for a particular season doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t wear that style year-round. There are no set rules when it comes to fashion, except for wearing what makes you feel beautiful and confident. The rest are just suggestions.
