STL Takes on the Silver Screen
Let’s be honest, when you think of black filmmakers the first city that often comes to mind is Atlanta. Even as a proud STL native and budding filmmaker, I’ll be the first to admit I never thought St. Louis had a thriving network of black filmmakers and actors.
Director Lacey Turner and his colleague Justin Holmes of 35MultiMedia Productions are just two of the names behind the talented team of writers, actors, and other filmmakers taking the Lou by storm. This dedicated group of filmmakers is passionate about bringing St. Louis culture to the silver screen, and they’ve been doing just that by filling up popular movie theaters for their screenings and premiers.
On the verge of perhaps their biggest screening to date, the group will be gearing up to showcase 8 short films directed by Lacey Turner and a sneak peak of his current project "The Lou" a six-part drama you don’t want to miss. The event will take place this Sunday June 19, 2018 at the St. Louis galleria cinema from 10:00AM-12:00PM.
I highly encourage everyone to come out and support STL filmmakers and come get a glimpse of the cinematic talent our city has to offer. If you can not attend but still want to support the production team, donations are also welcomed.
The support and contributions of the community is what provides more opportunities for local music artists and aspiring actors to be seen and heard. Keep in mind that all contributions will go toward future projects and enhancing the future screenings experience.
The group is always looking to add new talent so if you’re interested in acting, writing, or any aspect of film making make sure to contact 35multimediaProductions@gmail.com.
You don’t have to go to ATL to break into the filmmaking scene, sometimes opportunities can be right in your own back yard.
