Olanikee Osi and The Art of Being Selfish
It can be hard to properly dedicate the time and energy towards taking care of yourself. As a modern woman, you have to juggle so much at once; your work life, social life, dealing with relationships and family and career goals and trying to look good while handling it all.
When do you stop and start forgiving yourself, allowing yourself room to grow, to heal, to love?

Olanikee Osi, a self-love and care entrepreneur, has made it her mission to guide women through the difficulties that come with pursuing a better understanding of oneself and ultimately, loving yourself unconditionally.
Olanikee’s work is centered around Goddess Detox Inc. and Selfish Babe, two brands seeking to help women in need of rediscovering and accepting themselves.
“The biggest issues right now that harm female self-love and self-worth would be women not being more selfish in their lives, and the negative self talk that can come with comparing yourself to another woman,” Olanikee says.
For black women, it seems that with more platforms focused completely on the spiritual, emotional and mental growth of black women collectively, the stronger the concept of self-love has become. However, Olanikee still stresses the importance of selfishness. Selfishness for self-love is different than the selfishness that people are taught to avoid. Rather than putting everything of yours first from what everyone else has got going on, selfishness for self-love means putting one’s needs first; by choosing yourself, you are ensuring your own growth, happiness and purpose.
Plus, becoming a whole person helps your community grow as well. Whole people can contribute a lot to communities, especially in those communities that need more self-love.

Beyond urging women to be more proactive in protecting their spaces and energy, Olanikee recommends women to find new ways to explore self-love for themselves. Traveling can do good for the soul and the mind, along with challenging oneself with a new job or hobby. Even simple things, like learning to say no, can help you take charge in your own journey of self-love.
For Olanikee, working on her brands Goddess Detox Inc. and Selfish Babe is her own version of self-care. These brands are much needed resources for the modern woman who is either too busy, too tired, too emotionally troubled or too selfless to care and love herself.
Goddess Detox Inc, for instance, provides herbal products that help promote physical, spiritual and emotional detoxing.
“I began learning about holistic health, which targets the mind, spirit and body. I saw how wonderful herbs were in healing people…and how society kind of stepped away from this when it came to the pharmaceutical industry,” Olanikee shares.

In fact, the first two products released under Goddess Detox were herbs that help heal both the vagina and the womb. The goal behind the Queen’s Steam (a selection of herbs for steaming into the vagina) was to reconnect women to their most intimate body parts in a way that feels sacred.
However, just selling holistic products isn’t enough to cover the importance of self-love. The Selfish Babe app, another self-love brand Olanikee created, was created to be a how to for women seeking ways to better their self-care habits. What resulted was an app with daily notifications containing quotes and affirmations that promote self-love and acceptance.

“The Selfish Babe app reminds women how powerful they are, and that they are the creators of their lives,” Olanikee states. “Women have told me that the Selfish Babe app has helped them leave abusive relationships, gotten them through depression, and raised their confidence within themselves. It reminds me that the work I do is indeed making an impact.”
