Galentine's Day: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

While couples look forward to Valentine’s Day, many women including me look forward to the unofficial holiday, Galentine’s Day. The day which was created by Amy Poehler’s character Leslie Knope on “Parks and Recreation,” is designed for women to celebrate sisterhood, friendship, and empowerment. You join your best girlfriends or female associates to do activities like painting with a twist, getting your nails done and grabbing drinks at the bar. Can’t figure out what you and your girl tribe should do today? Check out our list below on how you can celebrate this day wisely.
1. Brunch

What’s better than breakfast food and unlimited mimosas? Yasss, please! Call your girls up to kee-kee and spill the hottest tea!
2. Fitness

The possibilities are endless when it comes to fitness. You can go to the gym and work on cardio, do yoga, go for a run, etc. You and your gal pals can work up a sweat together in unison. Each of you can push each other in working on those pre-summer bodies.
3. Nail Shop Run

Going to get manis and pedis is already therapeutic to do alone as an act of self-care but when you add your girlfriends to the equation it takes relaxation to the next level. After both of you have left your long day from work you can unwind and treat yourself to much needed hand and feet TLC.
4. Music Jam Session

Since Galentine's Day is all about showing love and celebrating sisterhood you and your girl gang can listen to your favorite empowering female anthems or if you've recently experienced a breakup maybe you can listen to your favorite heartbreak songs. Either way, it goes it’s a win-win situation cause music is good for the soul.
5. Painting

Sure none of you are as artistic as Picasso when it comes to painting but you can still have fun and let your creative side out. You can choose to paint at your local art studio or buy the supplies and hosts a paint party at your humble abode. As long as you have fun, that’s what matters most. Oh yeah, don't forget the wine. Cause who doesn’t like to sip while they paint?

The great Houstonian legend and international pop superstar Queen Bey once sang the lyrics, “Ladies leave your man at home. The club is full of ballers and they’re pockets full grown.” I felt that line even though I’m currently happily single. Nothing says girl's time more than a turn up with all your day ones. The type of venue you choose to partake in to party at is solely all up to you. Just make sure you and the crew are serving #squadgoals when you pull up.
7. Casino

You never know today could be your lucky day. Why not take that risk and call the gang up to join in some gambling fun. You only live once and this time you could win the jackpot! Have fun and play at your own risk!
8. Movie Night

Movie nights are always fun to participate in. Whether you're a movie buff or not, popcorn, snacks, food and drinks mixed with your favorite chick flicks or horror films couldn’t be a better combination. Make sure everyone has their own blanket to stay warm during the movie.
9. Karaoke

There's not a requirement that you must have the voice of an angel to do karaoke. You can be a novice in singing. Pump up the crowd and choose a great song! Crowd participation is key. Nobody wants to listen to a song that they aren’t familiar with. With your girls, you can collectively sing girl power anthems like “If You Wanna Be My Lover” by The Spice Girls or “No Scrubs” by TLC. If you’re really feeling feisty go for a solo performance by an artist like Beyoncé. I guaranteed a standing ovation will happen with whatever option you choose.
10. Shopping

Women all over the world find shopping to be very therapeutic. Seeing something you like and having the money to buy it at that moment is very satisfying. When you work hard you should have no shame in treating yourself. Even if you’re in a relationship, today can still be treated as a much needed retail therapy session with you and your best girls.
11. Concert/Live Music

Maybe your favorite artist is in town or there's an event with one of the local artists in your city. I’m sure other music heads will agree that live instrumentation and vocals trump studio-recorded music. Being in the crowd and really living in the moment to enjoy what you’re hearing feels magical. You know someone is really your friend when both of you can bond over music. You and your tribe can have a night out on the town and enjoy some great tunes live in action.
12. Bowling

We all know that one person whose super competing with everything even when it comes to leisure activities like bowling. You don’t have to treat this as a competition though. Instead treat this as a good time to bond and enjoy your girlfriends’ company. Don’t worry if you aren’t the best bowler, they have bumpers for a reason.

The misconception that black people don’t go camping or do any activities in nature is pretty much extinct. Some of us enjoy fishing, hiking and other activities in the wild just as much as our non-black counterparts do. Depending on where you live in the world you and the crew can use this day enjoying Earth's beautiful landscapes.

There may be some women out there who already had a girl's trip planned for this specific day. If you don’t fit into that category you can always embark on an impromptu girl's trip. Everyone can agree on the desired location and go from there. As long as everyone has the coins to participate, this can be a day to remember.
15. Fine Dining

Most couples dine out on Valentine's Day and the same can be done for women on Galentine's Day. Today is the perfect excuse to get cute and enjoy good eats at the most elite restaurants in town. No use in eating at the typical go-to’s when you can treat yourself to exquisite cuisine. Step out of your comfort zone and order foods you don’t normally eat. Enjoy this beautiful moment in sisterhood and take pride in spoiling yourself to five-star meals.
16. Gun Range

Through the group chat you’ve learned that everyone has had a pretty hectic week. Go to the gun range to blow off some steam. If you really want to be daring print out a picture of your ex or have one of the other lady's print one and use the photo as the target. No one said that you can’t heighten up the fun. You get to learn how to shoot, aim and do it in a group setting. Let's do it!
17. Photoshoot

A photoshoot with you and your girls showcases unity, sisterhood, and femininity. Here's an idea everyone can pick a color scheme to abide by or wear the same color. Just make sure that all the outfits are different since everyone has their own sense of style. You can hang the photograph up in your home or frame it at your desk at work. These are memories that will last lifetime and you can look back on it and say, ‘I remember when I had that bomb photoshoot with my girls.’ Round everybody up to get into formation!
