The 2010s provided a wide array of music, for everyone to enjoy. The Internet completely changed the way that artist make and put out music, and how consumers receive music. We got to see the redefining of what it is like to drop a project and what is even considered a project. The new decade of music brought in a wave of artist that were has open as they could be, putting everything into their art, from depression to addiction, happiness, etc. Whatever a person could want, their was an album for that emotion. 100. Danny Brown- XXX (2011)

Danny Browns XXX propelled him into notoriety in 2011. Danny’s flow and brash and abrasive lyrics are what caught the attention of the masses. Danny's use of his distinctive voice and harrowing subject matter made this a project that would be hard for anyone to forget. Danny Brown is a true anomaly, XXX doesn’t sound like anything or anyone in modern rap music. The brutal honesty and hilarious moments not only make XXX an album that will be remembered.

99. Big Krit- Return of 4eva (2011)

Mississippi Native Big K.R.I.T. released his project Return of 4eva in 2011. Return of 4eva is a beautifully crafted project full of southern wisdom and trunk knocking bass and beats. The production is charming and a step up from his previous project, K.R.I.T. Wuz Here. The amazing samples of classic soul records really made this project intriguing to listen and matched with K.R.I.T.’s rapping ability made this something to be remembered.

98. Ab-Soul- Control System (2012)

Carson’s own Ab-Soul has always been a figure that has always been somewhat of a mysterious. His project Control System is the powerful debut from Soul. Ab-Soul’s rapping ability is unmatched on this project, it is an anomaly of sorts. Ab-Soul dissection of politics, drug use, and even his Ex’s, it was an experience to listen to and is still amazing now. Ab-Souls range of topics that he covers on this project is vast, but in the end it wasn’t overwhelming or daunting. Control System is a body of work that is immersive and entertaining and eye-opening.

The Waters is an amazing project that has a central theme around water and its importance to humans. It was very fun to see how this would play out throughout the project. Mick Jenkins delivery, along with his amazing lyrics really set him apart from his contemporaries.

96. Isaiah Rashad- Civia Demo (2014)

Cilvia Demo was the introduction to Tennesee rapper Isaiah Rashad. Isaiah Rashad was afraid to be open and honest on this project, the emotions he conveyed throughout the project were sincere and took the listeners on a journey. Isaiah raps about the hardships of growing up and struggling with depression and the wide array of emotions that come with it. Cilvia Demo is a very emotionally gripping record, that opens up the listeners to a wide array of emotions that very few are able to speak about publicly.

In Color is a beautiful project, filled with a wide variety of sounds and genres into one beautiful package. Jamie XX’s debut project is brightly poised and arranged. The breakbeats and different genre-bending songs on here made a lasting impression on fans and critics alike. In Colour is a very fun listen no matter the occasion.

94. SchoolBoy Q- Blank Face LP (2016)

Schoolboy Q’s second album dives deeper into the mind of the Los Angeles rapper. His previous projects were street, gritty and dirty and Blank Face LP continued the trend. Q’s rapping abilities are raw and unfiltered. Q’s ability to convey these gritty street raps in a way that captures the listener and keeps them interested is amazing and it shows on this project.

Royce Da 5’9’s ability to paint pictures with words is interstellar. The storytelling on Book Of Ryan is amazing, on tracks like Cocaine where he paints of picture of his childhood is very haunting. On Boblo Boat Royce looks back on his trips to the amusement park. Royce’s lyricism, along with his vivid storytelling made for a project about honesty, depression, addiction, that hit home for many.

92. Young Thug- Barter 6 (2015)

Young Thug’s debut Barter 6 was the major label introduction to the Atlanta superstar. Thug had dropped a handful of mixtapes before this release, but Barter 6 is a true polished body of work that not many saw coming. Thug’s uncanny way of song-making has been one of the reasons why he is such an intriguing artist. From his infectious flows or his otherworldly voice, Barter 6 is a mesmerizing project from beginning to end.

Pharrell Williams had a huge part in crafting this project and it shows throughout. Random Access Memories further establishes that Daft Punk is at the top of their game.

The hard-hitting production from El-P and Killer Mikes amazing rapping has made Run The Jewels an underground sensation. The way Run The Jewels intertwines humor, hard lyricism, satire and politics, and economics is amazing.

89. Lorde- Pure Heroine (2013)

Pure Heroine is the debut studio project from New Zealand artist Lorde. Pure Heroine feels new and refreshing, more so than when it dropped in 2013. Lorde sings and raps about growing up to fast and everything that comes with it. Lorde is particularly good at describing and dissecting her feelings and emotions on Pure Heroine. These emotions and how weirdly but concisely they are put together is amazing.

88. Chance The Rapper- Coloring Book (2016)

Ever since coming into fame in 2013, Chance the Rapper has been an interesting figure in rap music. Coloring Book is a glorious mix of gospel and rap music. Coloring Book is an uplifting piece of work, that showcases Chance’s growth as not only an artist but as a human being. From experimenting with Drugs on Acid Rap to the uplifting sermon like raps on Coloring Book, it was truly refreshing to see the growth on this project.

87. Tierra Whack- Whack World (2018)

Tierra Whack created her own world on Whack World. The 15-minute project displays a variety of styles for the Philadelphia artist., from the upbeat Pet Cemetary and Cable Guy to darker tracks like 4 Wings and Hookers. Whack World is a joy ride of a project, the quick and quirky songs and the videos that accompanied them are the embodiment of creativity, showcasing different sides to the Philadelphia artist.

86. A$AP Rocky- Live Love A$AP (2011)

A$AP Rocky has been an enigma of sorts, Rocky’s ability to merge styles and genres was amazing to see. Live Love A$AP incorporates many styles notably Houston chopped and screwed, despite Rocky hailing from Harlem. Live Love A$AP’s production and an array of artists that appeared on the project mixed together perfectly. Live Love A$AP is an amazing debut project that set the tone for the entire A$AP collective

85. Joe Budden- All Love Lost (2015)

Joe Budden has never had a problem putting everything on the table. All Love Lost is the final in his Love Lost series. Joe’s ability to craft these amazing verses from his pain and hardships is quite impressive. The growth and maturation in Joe as he comes to grip with he’s self-destructive behavior is vast. Joe Budden has always been an honest rapper and he’s honesty helped him get to the point to make this project.

84. Mac Miller- Watching Movies With The Sound Off (2013)

Watching Movies With The Sound Off is the second album by late rapper Mac Miller. It is a complete 180 from its predecessor Blue Slide Park. While Blue Slide Park is very childish and trivial, we get a more mature Mac Miller on Watching Movies With The Sound Off. The production is more mature, it is cloudy and atmospheric. Mac’s subject matter is more mature, speaking of death, life, relationships, friends and more on the project. It was great to see the growth in Mac on this project and not just as an artist but as a person.

83. Schoolboy Q- Habits and Contradictions (2012)

Schoolboy Q has a different way of crafting recordings and making songs that set him apart from everyone. His left-field approach to rapping and making records is amazing to see. On tracks like Raymond 1969, Q displays his gangster rap to the fullest. On records like Druggy’s With Hoes Again, Q is partying and making terrible decisions. All of these different facets of a human from a rapper that is left field already makes a memorable rap album.

82. Phonte- Charity Starts At Home (2011)

Phonte of the rap collective Little Brother has quietly one of the more influential rappers. Charity Starts At Home is Phote’s debut solo project. Charity Starts at Home showcases all of Phonte’s ability, his ability to rap and sing. Phonte reflects on different situations he is in with his family. Charity Starts Out Here is a project that merges all of Phonte’s abilities into a cohesive project.

BlkSwn by St Louis Native Smino, is an amazing body of work. That showcases his versatility and ability to craft records. The audio journey into Smino’s minds is immersive, to say the least. Smino’s flow and rapping ability are amazing, along with his rapping ability he’s ability to carry a tune is great. The production on Blkswn, is filled with Jazz, Funk, and Soul influences, along with Sminos vocals, it is one project that will keep the listener coming back for more.

80. Miguel-Kaleidoscope Dream (2012)

Kaleidoscope Dreams is the second project by San Pedro native Miguel. Kaleidoscope Dreams is an atmospheric and moody project. The songwriting and singing on Kaleidoscope Dreams showcases different aspects and parts of love and being in a relationship. The songwriting is thoughtful and raunchy, making it memorable.

79. Lil Uzi Vert- Luv is Rage (2015)

Philadelphia rapper Lil Uzi Vert took the world by storm when he dropped Luv is Rage. Lil Uzi’s flow and use of his voice is what is most jarring about this project. The production is varied, there is hard-hitting trap beats to more melodic and laidback beats. Lil Uzi’s rhyming is charismatic and entertaining, leaving his mark on the world and the music industry alike.

78. Gallant- Ology (2016)

Ology is the debut studio album from Gallant. Gallant’s vocal ability truly shines throughout Ology, it is more confident on Ology and it is great to see. Gallant’s dark, murky style of music shines on this project. There is one lone feature from Jhene Aiko on this project. The entirety of the project was carried by Gallant, which is impressive. Ology is a special body of work, that continues to age like wine.

77. Hiatus Kaiyote- Choose Your Weapon (2015)

Choose Your Weapon is the second album from the Australian band Hiatus Kaiyote. The quartet’s efforts on Choose Your Weapon is magnificent, nothing seems forced on this project. It all comes naturally to the band. The lead singer Nai Palm voice is elegant, yet distinct. The band is amazing. Choose Your Weapon’s runtime is well over an hour, but still leaves you satisfied and wanting more.

76. Bryson Tiller- TRAPSOUL (2015)

Bryson Tiller is a singer from Louisville, Kentucky. It seemed like Bryson came out of nowhere when Don’t was released on Soundcloud. Trapsoul helped push the new sound of R&B. The way he speaks candidly about love and being realistic to whoever he is dealing with was amazing to see. The trap R&B sound that Bryson made popular would later lay the blueprint for R&B in the 2010s.

75. Drake- If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late (2015)

If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late graced the internet in the middle of the night on February 13th,2015. Drake’s ability to make multiple types of music has always been a reason as to why he has been able to sustain the career he has. If You’re Reading this It’s Too Late has something for everyone, and he does it so well. The project is amazing from beginning to end.

74. Kendrick Lamar- Section .80 (2011)

Kendrick Lamar’s Section 80 is the debut project for the Compton Emcee. Section 80`showcases Kendricks ability to rap at a high level, and make concept albums. Kendrick doesn’t strive away from uncomfortable topics, speaking about rape, sex work, racism and an array of topics. The production is amazing, matched with Kendrick’s otherworldly flows and rapping ability made for an amazing project that helped catapult him to being the household name that he is today.

73. YG- My Krazy Life (2014)

YG’s major-label debut is a long way from his Toot It and Boot It beginnings. The raw, gritty album helped establish YG as a West Coast Legend. The maturation and growth that was displayed in this record is a feat in itself. My Krazy Life has a day in the life scheme like other classics such as Doggystyle or Good Kid Maad City, but somehow YG was able to craft his own unique way and through all of this created a modern-day classic.

72. Kanye West- Life of Pablo (2016)

The opening to Life of Pablo is Kanye West’s 7th LP, Ultralight Beam set the tone for the project. Kanye is as bold, brash, innovative as he has ever been. The Life Of Pablo is full of contradictions and over top interactions. From the Famous to 30 Hours Kanye leaves no leaf unturned. From rapping about bleached assholes on Father Stretch My Hands PT.1 to family members stealing from him. The topics are vast and are done in a way that only Kanye can pull off. The madness surrounding the project was only a piece of madness that was on this album. The Life Of Pablo is a charming, eccentric, fascinating piece of work.

71. Noname- Telefone (2016)

Chicago rapper Noname is an amazing rapper. Telefone is a thought-provoking coming of age album that is beautifully put together. Noname’s passion for poetry and painting scenes with her words is impressive. Throughout the project there is this dark undertone to her music, it is daunting, and ethereal at the same time. The reminiscing of early childhood memories and dealing with the violence in Chicago is intertwined in a beautiful way that helps get her message in a clear and concise project.

69. Bon Iver- Bon Iver (2011)

Justin Vernon is the mastermind behind the masterpiece of Bon Iver. Justin has raised the bar for himself with each project he released, pushing the boundaries of Folk/Indie music. The departure in sound was a vast jump, which may have been the reason why this album is executed so well.

It is bolder than Donald Glover’s previous efforts, It is bigger in production and direction. Because The Internet mixes of rapping and singing flow smoothly. Along with the script and short film that accompanied the project, propelling it to bigger heights, as not just an album, but a complete experience.

It was the triumph victory after years of independent work that amassed a loyal fan base. The album boasted authenticity and staying true to one’s self, along with hard work and dedication. Victory Lap is the embodiment of hard work and reaping the fruits of your hard labor, from beginning to end.

El-P’s production and Killer Mike’s rapping ability are a great combination that led to the making of Run The Jewels. Killer Mikes visceral rapping ability and thought-provoking lyrics is the catalyst for this album, Killer Mike rose to the occasion, making a body of work that shines on all fronts.

65. Wale- Ambition (2011)

Ambition is Wale’s sophomore effort, it is his first album under the MMG moniker. Ambition is an album about a young black male striving to overcome all of the odds and be great. The span of this project is Wale’s honest thoughts. It all came together eloquently, further serving Wale’s ability songwriting ability and his ability to be thought-provoking help sell the concept of this album home.

64. Adele- 21 (2011)

21 is the sophomore effort from the British phenomenon. The album is rich and bold, much like Adele’s voice. 21 is also Adele’s first effort working with, Rick Rubin and Paul Epworth. The rich blues influence on the album is marvelous. The Ballads on 21 span many emotions and while it is categorized as a sad album, there is a bit of bravery that comes with showcasing your pain as art.

63. KAYTRANADA- 99.9%(2016)

99.9% is a body of work that intertwines multiple genres of music into a immersive album. The production and beats on 99.9% are diverse, never boring the listener. Songs like Uno and Breakdance have no vocals, but it is an amazing breakdown and set. The guest appearances by Anderson .Paak, Vic Mensa, Phonte and more, all bring different variables that help bring this project over the top. 99.9% is a dreamy sounding project with amazing samples, Kaytranada’s ability to craft these sounds is amazing, making for a special project.

62.Daniel Caesar- Freudian(2017)

Freudian is the debut album from Canadian singer Daniel Caesar. The emotion that is conveyed with Daniel’s voice is deep and gripping. The album features songstresses H.E.R., Syd, Kali Uchis and each one compliments Daniel's sound. Daniel’s album about gratitude, redemption, and emotions is gracefully done. Freudian is an ode to love and falling in and out of it, that is done in such a way that it seems sincere and thoughtful.

61. The Roots- Undun (2011)

How I Got Over is the 11th album from The Roots. It is an album contains a story that follows a day Redford Stevens life. The album starts with the death of Redford and the rest of the album is told in reverse, covering everything that led up to that point. The social commentary and political statements in this project are strong and harrowing. Undun is hair-raising and informative, and entertaining all at the same time.

Watch The Throne follows up amazing albums from both West and Jay-z. Everything is extravagant about Watch The Throne, the production, the samples, the rhymes, the features and the moment that came from Watch The Throne.

Channel Orange helped open the gates for the artist to express themselves freely and openly as they see fit. Throughout the album, Frank sings from many different perspectives, father, son, drug addict, Emperor, Pimp to name a few. Channel Orange is a beautiful album that has stood the test of time and from here on out.

58. Tame Impala- Currents (2015)

Currents is an album that feels amazing, fresh and new. Years later the record has become a fan favorite. Tame Impala completely changed their sound from their first two projects and elevated on Currents. The project sounds and feels amazing. Currents don’t have the heavy electric guitars from Tame Impalas previous projects, Tame Impala instead opts for heavy synthesizers with elements of Hip-Hop and R&B and 70’s soft rock.

57. Tyler The Creator- Flower Boy (2017)

Flower Boy is an album about Tyler The Creator and a male lover. Throughout the album, we see the inception of this romance on “Glitter” and the end on “See You Again”. Tyler is his most open and honest on this album, describing dealing with fame, coming out, police brutality and more. We get to see the growth of an artist from a trouble-making Teenager to a multifaceted man. Seeing this growth is amazing to see and fresh.

56. D'Angelo & The Vanguard- Black Messiah (2014)

After dropping Voodoo in 2000, D'Angelo went into a spiral downwards of arrests and addiction, and almost dying in a car wreck. Black Messiah has elements from previous albums and polishes them in a way that no one has seen before. The elements of Jazz, Soul, Funk into a glorious melting pot that gets better with each listen. Black Messiah tackles many topics that would make the average listener uncomfortable, but it does it with a certain grace and this makes the album memorable.

55. Tyler The Creator- IGOR

Tyler the Creators fifth studio album arrived with no warning in 2019. What the world received was a phenomenal album that was written, produced and arranged all by Tyler. The production was leaps and bounds more eccentric than his previous projects. We also get to see Tyler at his most vulnerable and emotional. Long gone the days of Tyler’s teenage angst and vulgar use of slurs. Igor is a magnificently crafted project that pushed the boundaries.

54. Frank Ocean- Nostalgia Ultra (2011)

Lemonade was an experience that shook the world when it dropped, along with the visuals that accompanied the album were stunning. Lemonade is filled with so many different themes and meanings, it was amazing to see this piece of art and all of the things that it addressed. Lemonade addressed Racism, the black experience, her personal life and so much more. Beyoncé did all of this so elegantly and fiercely that it would be hard not to commend her for this amazing body of work.

4. Drake- Take Care (2011)

Take Care digs into Drake’s mental state, it is more personal, and vulnerable than his previous projects. The lush intro ""Over My Dead Body” is an amazing way to start an album. Take Care cemented Drake as a Superstar that he is today. The vulnerability, and honesty helped shape the sound in the current climate of Hip-Hop. The mix of downtempo Hip-Hop, R&B, pop and the openness of his lyrics made a memorable classic, that has something for everyone to listen to.

3. Kendrick Lamar- Good Kid Maad City (2012)

Kendrick Lamar’s debut Good Kid MAAD City is a cinematic experience. Good Kid Maad City is the day in the life of Kendrick Lamar. The album is a film that delves into the life of a teenage Kendrick Lamar. The story in this album is beautifully told, despite some of the horrifying elements, the album is a masterpiece. The listener gets to experience aspects of life many are too afraid to delve into or deal with it, this makes Good Kid MAAD City a beautiful piece of work.

2. Solange- A Seat At The Table (2016)

Solange’s Seat At The Table beautifully dissects painful topics concerning black people, particularly black women. With Tracks like Don’t Touch My Hair and Where Do We Go, it deals with black bodies having to go through spaces that aren’t ours. The pain and drama that comes with being born black and the beauty through the madness. The album is narrated with interludes by Master P, where he touches on the music industry and how it can be hand in hand with the black experience. A Seat At The Table is a testament to surviving and being strong at any cost.

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is Kanye’s Magnum Opus, a testament to never stopping even when the odds are against you. Dark Fantasy delves into many themes and ultimately the price of fame. Kanye faces his imperfections beautifully and in the process made one of the best albums ever in the process.
