#OnOurRadar: Meet Ocean x KungFu

Music came naturally for emerging ATL rappers Ocean x KungFu. The hip-hop sister duo started performing locally at the tender age of 10, and since then amassed millions of followers online from viral freestyles and vlogs.
Last year, they released their highly anticipated anthem and video for “Gangsta”. The sharp-tongued single rouses fans with its authoritative lyricism and ceaselessly builds upon their initiative of having the ultimate confidence and no fear whatsoever.
We recently had the opportunity to chat with the ATL natives about their inspirations, dream collabs and more. Check out the full interview below:
What was the inspiration behind your most recent single and video “Gangsta”?
We both love the Destiny Child Song I need a soldier, Destiny Child gave us the inspiration to write about the type of guys we’re into and our creative director, Des Gray, created and directed our music video inspired by Destiny Child.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
We are new artists who are really open and would love to have the opportunity to work with everyone! But there are a few artists that we’ve been inspired by since we were kids and really grew up off their music. We would love to work with Future, Thug, and 21 Savage.
What makes you Rare?
Ocean: My personality is what makes me unique. I am someone who is trustworthy. I take responsibility for my actions and own my mistakes. I am a quick and efficient worker. I never look to cut corners, but I do avoid things that are an unnecessary waste of time. Finally, I am open to change and embrace it with a positive attitude.
KungFu: What makes me rare is my greatest personal strength is my dedication and passion for continuous learning and development. I am aware that to contribute value to the company, I must improve my skills and capabilities. I have several personal goals that I want to achieve in life, and these require that I am successful professionally. Therefore, to improve my professional success, I am committed to keeping ahead of industry trends and changes and using my own time to proactively learn the most relevant and valuable skills for the business

What advice would you give to your fans?
Always keep positive energy and work hard for what you believe in.
What hobbies do you have outside of music?
Ocean: I like to hang out with my family, and I love shopping and cooking!
KungFu: I love baking, cooking, and going to the movies!
What is your motto?
Ocean: Be the change you want to see in the world!
KungFu: Be intentional In all that you do!
Ocean and KungFu have received several co-signs from producers and peers and are on the path to become hip-hop’s hottest duo. It was also announced that they would be opening for Future on his One Big Party Tour.
